Test Drive Review: 2024 Toyota Vitz 1.0 MT

If you're in the market for a budget run around or a student car then consider the 2024 Toyota Vitz. I got to test drive this fine machine and it did not disappoint considering what it was designed for.

Design:

The Toyota Vitz 1.0 MT has a functional design, lacking in standout features but exuding a no-nonsense attitude. Its appearance is more about utility than style, making it ideal for those focused solely on getting from A to B.

Features:

Despite its modest appearance, the Vitz 1.0 MT comes equipped with essential safety features like airbags, ABS, and rear parking distance control (PDC). Surprisingly, it even boasts hill start assist. While lacking a radio, it compensates with steering wheel-mounted controls for aftermarket radios. There are some essentials that are missing, which I think would not have hurt Toyota's pocket if they had included it, such as rear view mirror interior manual adjusters, with the Vitz you have to open the window and push the actual mirror glass to adjust it.

Performance:

Powered by a 1.0-liter engine producing 49 kW and 89 Nm of torque, the Vitz 1.0 MT might not impress on paper. However, considering its light 830 kg weight, the engine proves more than adequate, offering a lively driving experience, especially in urban environments.

Price and Warranty:

With a price tag of R169,899, the Vitz 1.0 MT offers excellent value for money. This price includes a comprehensive 3-year/100,000 km warranty and a 30,000 km service plan covering the first two services, providing peace of mind for new owners.

If you're in the market for a practical, no-frills city runabout with reliable performance and solid warranty coverage, the 2024 Toyota Vitz 1.0 MT is worth considering.
