Table of Content

The BMW M1 is a sports car that was produced by the German automaker BMW from 1978 to 1981. It was the first car to be developed and produced by BMW’s motorsport division, BMW M GmbH (later known as BMW M).

The M1 was developed in conjunction with Lamborghini, and was intended to be a homologation special, meaning it was built specifically to meet the requirements for a certain type of racing. However, the M1 ended up being used primarily as a road car, and only a small number of racing versions were built.
The M1 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, who also designed the DeLorean DMC-12 and the Volkswagen Golf. It was powered by a 3.5-liter inline-six engine that produced 273 horsepower, and it could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just over 5 seconds. The M1 was equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and a rear-wheel drive setup.
Only 453 M1s were produced in total, making it a rare and sought-after collector’s item today.
